Socialist Psalm 23

I first heard this in a sermon by the late Dr. D. James Kennedy of Coral Ridge Ministries in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He found it so relevant to the times in which he found himself and that may have been the 1990s. Oh, if he only saw what was happening to our country today! I bet he would deliver a real fire and brimstone sermon about the shenanigans in Washington and the horrific consequences to our nation, our economy, our culture, and future generations.

I understand that some Christian groups take offense to this rewrite of the 23rd Psalm. There is nothing I can do about that. I think this is a clever, and not sacrilegious, modification of a much prayed biblical verse, and for our times it is quite relevant.

The Socialist 23rd Psalm:

“The government is my shepherd:

“I need not work.

“It alloweth me to lie down on a good job;

“It leadeth me beside still factories;

“It destroyeth my initiative.

“It leadeth me in a path of a parasite for politic’s sake;

“Yea though I walk through the valley of laziness and deficit-spending, I will fear no evil, for the government is with me.

“It prepareth an economic Utopia for me, by appropriating the earnings of my own grandchildren.

“It filleth my head with false security;

“My inefficiency runneth over.

“Surely the government should care for me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in a fool’s paradise forever.”

There are many posts of the socialist 23rd psalm and no original author found.
Image is taken from a Glasgow socialist organization promoting itself on the web. It does seem a bit ironic and archaic to promote a "workers unite" mentality when in reality what is being promoted by this ideology is don't work - just take from those that do.
